Back in 2012, I joined the hot MLM of the time, Empower Network.
Everybody and their sister seemed to be aware of this company, from their fancy cool squeeze pages, to their incredible looking mansions, these guys were the coolest new kids on the block.
It was lighting up my Facebook news feed and I just couldn’t resist clicking through and finding out what all the hype was about.
In order to watch the video, I had to enter the email address which I did and I was going through to the next squeeze page where I watched a solid 10 min video of some guy living in a beautiful mansion, claiming he did it all from his home, working with only a laptop and internet connection.
I was intrigued to say the least to find out more.
At the time I didn’t even know what MLM was really, I just heard the words, blog everyday and you will make money.
So I thought I was the perfect candidate because at the time I was blogging everyday for a happy and quite enjoying it, collecting some readers here and there, I was growing my readership.
And so I joined, I didn’t go all in but I purchased the starter pack and I got started.
3 months of blogging and I wasn’t going anywhere fast, I was getting visits to my page but no clicks, I even posted a blog on my main blog which already had some visitors, in 3 months of doing this, I got 1 person to opt-in to the email.
I was waking up to the realization that most people that join will search for certain keywords like “Empower Network” or “How to join empower network” and all the derivatives of that word that BUYERS will be searching for.
I was not going to have success making a blog that focus on a topic that nobody cared about. I mean I saw someone blog about Roller Coaster rides at Cedar Point or How Arnold Schwarzenegger became mayor of California. So I was faced with a situation that I told me that I was not going to make it in this program.
Here’s why, for all those keywords that first page on Google was literally covered by huge blogs with already tons of readership. We’re talking about hundreds of comments for each blog posts and a big email list as well, with many social media shares.
How the heck was I supposed to compete? Even if I go to the first page, the top site was so strong and offering so much incentives on joining their team that I knew I didn’t stand a chance. I mean he was a true pro.
I began to see through the deception of Empower Network, as they claimed anyone can make money, all you have to do is blog, and you get all these people to sign up and you make 100% commission, to me that sounded like the best program out there, but what I didn’t realize is that all of their educational program, you had to purchase before you could sell them, so the big ticket bonus that they had for sale was over several grand which I did not have at the time.
The more I looked into this, the more I realized its true difficulty level, I mean we are talking about Over Saturation to the highest level, people that have been blogging for 5 to 10 years, already have massive amounts of content and site authority with google because they keep blogging consistently and incredibly lengthy blog posts, how was I ever suppose to compare or compete with that?
So at 3 months mark, I decided to cut the tie with the MLM path and call it quits
My dreams of becoming self-employed was done, for the time being.
Until it resurrected when another opportunity showed itself, and I will get more into that shortly…
This is what this blog is about, showing different ways to succeed online, and it doesn’t always have to be the MLM path…
