A shocking example of domestic violence..
As an insect-friendly household we're used to seeing a variety of multi-legged creatures running around and generally making themselves at home. As you have previously read, we've had a good selection of spiders as a result and in general, they've had more than enough to eat as a variety of small creatures practically queue up to join the web. One notable failure though has been Mr and Mrs Spider who decided to set up a web in the kitchen window, no doubt lured by the promise of a selection of fruit flies who'd taken a liking to our indoor compost caddy. Unfortunately for them, we decided that the smell of it in warm weather was getting a bit overpowering and moved it outside, and that's when things started to go badly wrong. As is common with spiders, the male has but a limited lifespan during which he mates copiously: the female then grows tired of him and arranges for him to be her next meal, and that's exactly what happened in the kitchen. I actually only noticed this when I was filling the watering can outside and noticed Mrs Spider sitting in the centre of her web, with Mr Spider - actually his legs and spine - marooned somewhere towards the top of it. Mrs Spider had indluged in a spot of domestic violence and devoured her husband's upper half!! This scenario continued for several days and Mrs Spider began to look exceedingly miserable: not so much due to the loss of her mate, but because she must have been getting very hungry indeed as there were still no visiting flies. Then, last night I looked again, and the remaining parts of Mr. Spider had finally disappeared: things must actually have been rather desperate as I wouldn't have considered a few legs and part of a headless spine good eating. But, when times are hard ... It only remains to see what happens next - I suspect that Mrs. Spider will up sticks and maybe go back to her fatter relatives in the garden, but whatever happens, the sight of such a wanton act of domestic violence will haunt me for a long time to come!

They shall not pass!!..
I'm very pleased to say that the Fito Slug Stoppa Tape really works, and has stopped all the snails and slugs that were voraciously eating our plants. In the attached picture, you can see a solitary snail attempting, and failing to cross the copper strip. It actually sat there all day (and was still there this morning), so I think we can say we got a result. What I really like about this approach is that I don't have to worry about slug pellets contaminating plants grown to eat and the birds still get their food too.

Garden angst..
It's been a while since I've written about the garden so here's an update.. Sadly the window boxes have been an almost total waste of time, with the plants being alternately battered by the rain and bleached by the sun. Part of the problem is that the terrace has been built facing the "wrong way", which means that it stays cool in summer for most of the time but any plants get a full-on roasting from the sun, so window boxes may not be the way to go next year (if we're still here). The plants in pots have done rather better but have suffered dreadfully from a plague of snails and slugs. Particularly annoying was the total decimation of a beautiful head of dill, along with coriander: we didn't want to put pellets down but had to eventually concede defeat. We now have a small selection of plants which look as though they'll do rather nicely over the coming months as long as I can keep up the watering regime. I also potted on the dwarf sunflowers and passiflora the other night, sprinkling the now-obligatory pellets but also wrapping a peculiar copper tape called Fito around the periphery of the pots. This is supposed to stop slugs and snails in their tracks by creating a tiny electric shock and so far it seems to have worked. Its a humane option, but given the wanton destruction of plants that we were going to use for food we didn't feel kindly disposed towards the slimy marauders. Still, if we can salvage our best plants it'll be worthwhile. We're starting to get some of the mixed seeds from Morrisons come up now so once there's a but more of a display I'll take some proper pictures.

Electricity bill update..
Well, what can I say? Despite coming to what I thought was a reasonable solution to my electricity bill problem with Southern Electric, they've today sent me notification that they'll be collecting the outstanding balance - some GBP200 - in one instalment, mid-May. This after agreeing verbally that I'd just keep the account open until I'd paid it off in a couple of months using my existing payment method. Okay, so it may just be an automatically-produced bill with standard wording but it really didn't make my day, and I'll be phoning up AGAIN on Monday to sort the mess out. Basically it seems that Southern Electric believe I've used over GBP700 over what passed for a winter, and that combined with a number of what seem to be wildly optimistic estimated readings have combined to make my life a misery. I'll try and get it sorted tomorrow and then write the next update. In the meantime though, check out this link and worry...

Garden excitement..
As I haven't had access to a garden since leaving Alton nearly 3 years ago I've been determined to make the most of the town-house-sized garden at the new place. Although most of it is set to lawn (which is due to get its first cut real soon now), there's a decent-size patio which I've already utilised as additional growing space in pots. I've actually used a surprising amount of soil but my little leafy friends are now in their new homes and hopefully ready to grow. I've planted sunflowers, physallis, dill, corinader, echinacia, and a sweet 'n scented mix in two large pots which I'm hoping will attract bees and butterflies. I've also speculatively planted some plum tomatoes and peppers as seed in a small outside propagator although I think that I might just be too late this year, this being due to the late move. Finally, I've tried a few ivy cuttings in rooting powder and peat pots, but this is pure experimentation - I've no idea whether they'll take. Actually, the butterflies and bees are a big issue for us as they are in most of the UK. With a combination of environmental factors, 2 years of wet summers as well as the Varro Mite attacking bees has placed these species under serious threat. In order to try and combat this, we've installed a "bumblebee house" which will allegedly provide a shelter for these low-flying marvels along with a bee-log which is favoured by Red Mason bees. There's already quite a bit of bee activity at the moment around the back garden but I'm hoping that once the seeds come up they'll be coming over en masse. Finally, the window boxes previously planted are starting to show signs of "critical mass" - the sweet peas in particular are growing very dense and I suspect that over the next week or so we should see a blaze of colour. Come back soon for more news and pictures!

Manic Sunday..
After a quiet Saturday, I was up early today getting ready for the myriad tasks I had to do. First one was to nip to the DIY shops and get some light fittings to repair a couple of lamps. I more-or-less got what I needed but I'm finding that my freedom of choice is becoming severely limited, or the stores just aren't stocking the ranges now. I needed some black 3-core flex and black mains plugs too: neither was to be had at B&Q or Homebase, so I bought alternatives but these weren't strictly what I wanted. I then needed a 1/2 inch mount for a BC lampholder but again, no luck. I came home and promptly ordered them online, but once more this has meant delaying a project and costing me yet more money for postage. Anyway, I managed to wire up the two lamps and will finish off when the adapter plates come from Lamps and Lights. Then it was on with the table project: the Danish Oil had soaked in nicely from the previous day and I decided to remove any dust that may have settled from overnight, again using my economy tack cloths; only one this time though. I then started on the next coat, and this time the amount of oil I needed was much reduced. Also, for some reason the smell of the oil seemed a lot less this time but even so I opened the window to let the fresh air in. Big mistake. As there was a bit of a breeze my plastic decorating sheet promptly tried to take off and wrap itself around the oil-tacky table legs. I closed the window and just decided to work a bit quicker: it was all over in less than half an hour, and as you can see from the picture its starting to look a very different colour from when it was started. I've more-or-less decided to use a blend of oils for the top coat which still hasn't been applied, but I'll need a second opinion before I do that :-) Finally, I potted a load of seeds and bulbs in the garden, and we now have a potential splash of colour waiting to happen. If all turns out okay you'll definitely see some pictures!

Slow Saturday..
A slow start to the day, but I'll be starting on a new project this afternoon once I've been to the DIY place down the road. The pine table we bought before we moved in is now ready to be stained, and the sticky "tack" cloths I ordered have now arrived so I can finally clean all the dust off. I'll be buying some Liberon "Superior Danish Oil" which should give the bare pine a beautiful light-oak colour. Once I've put a few coats on it'll need waxing which will take several weeks but we'll be able to use the table in the meantime. More later, with photos...

The dust is settling..
It's been just over a week since we moved in and most of the trauma of the move has now passed. Of course I'm still ferrying goods and chattels between Woking and here but the old apartment is emptying nicely. I think this week shold see the majority of it cleared and then it'll be a matter of getting rid if the last of the oddments that are left. On a positive note though, I've had some time to start some gardening at the weekend, and cleared and replanted the window boxes: trailing scented sweet peas for the upstairs, and exotic aquilegia downstairs. I also have a growbag (for flowers) which I'll fill with a bee/butterfly/scented mix in a week or so and we're planning for sunflowers and herbs in pots too. At some stage I'll need to give the beds a good sorting out but I really need to finish the move first. Ah well, off to work now (yes, I have to fit that in too!) And then more moving tonight :-) L8rs!

Still no phone at the new place..
Although I took the afternoon off yesterday to wait in for the BT engineer, I eventually received a TXT from BT to say that they wouldn't need access to the property to complete the connection. Well, the deadline came and passed, and we still have no phone service: a call to customer services was less than helpful in that they asked me to "locate and unscrew the front of the BT master socket and try the connection again with 2 handsets. If it still doesn't work I can call an engineer but if the fault is down to me, they have the right to charge me an extra GBP122"! Well, call me a simpleton, but if they'd sent an engineer out to the property in the first place it could have been diagnosed and fixed on the spot! But if you think about it they'd potentially lose revenue doing it that way, and in these hard times when the majority of people only have BT because they need it for broadband I guess BT need every penny they can get. That doesn't help me though, and now I have to go out and buy a second handset which I'll get from Robert Dyas for about a fiver. More on this as it happens..

The weekend has pretty much been a blur and we've worked like crazy to get as much done as possible in 2 days. I'm off to work shortly but V has a day off and will be continuing to sort out. Still quite a bit of stuff to ferry between the properties too.. In the meantime and until I can get to my laptop again, here's a picture of the back garden. L8rs!

Moving day part 1..
Its the day of the first part of the move and everyone's up early. I'm surrounded by a sea of packed-up stuff and the removal guys will be here in a couple.of hours. Then its down to Guildford in V's car and collect the keys from the letting agent. After that, all we have to do is move in :-) I still have to ferry stuff between Woking and Guildford for a while so it'll be a bit disjointed, but at least the car's back on the road again so I won't have to keep renting vans. Anyway, see y'all later: I have packing to help with...

Moving on - update..
Quite a blur of activity today as the process of moving on went into a higher gear.. I've managed to set up all the utility accounts and organised the transfer of my BT account. They managed to confirm the new phone number and also added that there'd be a GBP 122 reconnection fee as the original line had been ceased in 2003(!). Fortunately this legalised mugging can be spread over 6 months so its not so bad :-) I've also started the broadband transfer and this will take place on April 5th, so please expect some scheduled downtime for a change. More later!

Spent Saturday humping..
Well that was a Saturday to remember - I decided to start off the moving process by having a symbolic clearout of a load of crap from both the garage and the apartment. The garage was mainly odds and ends, but I'd decided to get rid of a lot of the old furniture, and I'd hired a small van to do just that. During the course of the day I managed to dispose of a single bed, mattress, headboard, two armchairs, a 15Kg butane cylinder, a pine bench and an oak gate-leg table. The table went to the local Hospice Shop and the rest to the tip. Yes, I could have donated the furniture to a needy local group (as suggested by the Woking Council web site), and I tried, I really did. I emailed them with full details (and pictures) - twice, left an answer-phone message and even called them up while I was packing up, but no.. Perhaps there just aren't enough poor people in Woking, or I should have offered G-Plan. Whatever. At the tip it was surprising how much pre-sorting now had to be done: when you consider that only 23% of Surrey's waste was recycled last year you can understand that the Authority's keen to improve the figure or no doubt face substantial EU fines. They eyed me with suspicion each time I turned up, only because they thought I might be carrying building waste and that incurs a per-load charge. Still, I managed to get the job done and spent the afternoon driving around Guildford looking at the local area where we'll be living and assessing the car parking situation. Talking of which, I was genuinely surprised how much traffic there was yesterday, and it wasn't just at isolated times. I know I haven't driven the car much while in Surrey but I'm sure it's got worse. The concept of green motoring doesn't seem to have caught on here yet, despite the excellent public transport. This is also going to a problem when we move: we're having to apply for parking permits, and have to present our vehicle log books when we apply in person for the permits. Visitors can apparently buy day-passes but even these are limited to 30 a year! Basically, Guildford is trying to say "don't bring your car". Unfortunately we both have one and neither of us can afford to get of them yet, so we're stuck for the time being. This let is only relatively short term anyway and we'll have to decide what happens next once our term of tenancy is up. Maybe we'll stay in the UK, maybe not, but only time will tell. All I know is that I want to reduce my personal possessions to a minimum, so that when the time comes to move I can sling it all in a limited number of boxes and go. And now, it's back to the packing.. see y'all later!

Winehouse - time to end it?..
Once again that walking booze and pharmaceutical showcase (Amy Winehouse) has proved an embarrassment to normal people everywhere by engaging in behaviour during her flight back to the UK that would get any normal person sedated and restrained by cabin crew and arrested on landing. But no, we have to be constantly reminded that this class-A nutbag is "something special" and needs "looking after". But why do we want her back at all? Why doesn't she do us all a favour and overdose on something? Look at this way - it worked for Billie Holliday and it could do the same for Winehouse's career. One can only hope...

You cannot be serious!..
I just received a Google Alert email for Woking: I monitor any news containing the name of the town and maybe write about it if it's interesting. Well, this email was, and it was from an estate agent trying to flog one of the horrendously overpriced (even when new) apartments next to Woking rail station. The asking price is a credit-crunching UKP 399,950 and the description beggars belief: "a prime location in the heart of dynamic Woking, this stunning two bedroomed apartment features smart and stylish accommodation that enjoys triple aspect views from its unusual balcony". Wow. I don't know whether to treat that as a joke or what, but the asking price is obscene, and I really don't think that living next to a rail station justifies the price either. Personally I'd describe it as "A windswept hi-rise rabbit hutch with grand views of the railway, a maze of roads and the not-very inspiring Woking town centre". I know there's a bit of a problem with the housing market, and there must be a lot of people out there with, or approaching negative equity but this example stands out. Check out the pictures which show the estate-agent's description and a small Google map of the triple-aspect views.

I am the flatpack veteran..
Yep, a lifetime of assembling a series of dodgy furniture has paid off today following the delivery of my new bed, bought online from Ikea. Everything went like clockwork actually with the bed being in stock, ordered okay, confirmed and then delivery within a reasonable time. They TXTed me to say that the delivery would be between 12 and 4 today and it turned up at just after 1. The actual bed arrived in a suspiciously small rectangular pack and despite an earlier panic, all the bits were there and I managed to assemble it in just over an hour. The slatted bases proved surprisingly heavy, and I eventually decided to assemble upstairs in the bedroom: just as well as it practically fills the room :-) It's quite smart too - nice pine complete with a semi-open headboard (I call them handcuff bars - V will be sooo pleased). I'm not sure how sturdy it'll be long-term but it wasn't expensive: the mattresses however are another story and I think I'll be buying two singles rather than a double: that way if one gets damaged somehow I'll be able to replace it economically. Still, that'll be next month. It'll seem quite strange sleeping on a bed again after over a year on an inflatable mattress, which, incidentally has done really well: it seems to have been kind to my back and I think somewhat like a water bed without the risk of drowning. For now though I've put the old faithful air bed on as a temporary fix and will be having my first night "above ground level" tonight :-) Sweet dreams (to me) :-))))

OMG what a night!..
It's midday in Central Europe and Boskovice has decided to turn over in bed and have another snooze. Nothing is open apart from the coffee shop where I chugged two double espressos and a wedge of the local honey cake, Medovnik. If there are young people around they're invariably looking tired and drawn which isn't surprising after a night at Hradhouse 2007. My day yesterday was a weird one. I knew from past experience that I shouldn't do a lot during the day if I was to stay up all night, especially for a gig as important as this one: after all its not every year a music festival has a 10th anniversary so I had to be on top form. So I largely spent the day in bed, apart from nipping down to reception to buy a couple of beers (40p a bottle) a large bag of Moravian Crisps (ham flavour) and a bar of chocolate. Yes, yes, a dietary nightmare but stodge is the name of the game when you're up all night-trust me on this one. The gig actually started at 5pm and a couple of no-name DJs were kicking off this prestige event. I decided to wait until 6pm to venture up the hill: no sense in being the first one there. Outside the hotel was a hive of activity: just at the end of the building was a bouncy-castle type tent proudly bearing the Semtex logo. Yes, they make explosives, sponsor music events and make a rather er, "interesting" energy drink. I made a mental note and started off up the 400m hill. Now it doesn't sound a lot but my camera kit was around 8Kg and in common with many of the partygoers the ascent took its toll with many stopping several times along the way to catch their breath and wonder if they shouldn't have stayed at home and watched it on TV instead. I eventually made it to the top though and asked a burly security guard where the acreditation tent was so that I could collect my press pass. "Ah!" he said, "its down the hill". Yep. All the way down, and actually in the Semtex tent just outside the hotel. I lurched back down the hill again quietly muttering under my breath and cursed the lack of signage. About halfway down I met my promoter, Katka, who was clearly suffering on the ascent and I assured her that after this particular climb "I would be around all night"! So anyway I collected my press pass from Semtex and strode off up the hill again. This time there was no problem and somewhat annoyingly (as I'd paid for a ticket) I was waved straight through. Ah well, I'll know for next time. So I was now in the gothic ruin of a castle that was to be my source of entertainment for the night. The structure itself was actually a lot bigger than I thought, with a steep winding pathway from the front lawn (Drum 'n Bass stage area) to a "landing" which housed two more stages. The Minimal Techno "stage" was actually set in a cellar/dungeon which had been opened out - a health and safety nightmare due to a single entrance/exit, but an ideal venue for that genre of music. The party people were already getting into the swing and I took a few pictures and moved on. The next level up was via a winding staircase and opened out to yet another stage: there was no doubt about it, I would be spoiled for choice and in fact most of the gig was spent rushing about up and down stairs battling my way through the ever-increasing crowds to catch the DJs I needed to take pictures of. Light was fading and with it came the inevitable smell of weed - it wouldn't be a festival without I guess and it certainly isn't unpleasant ;-) The organisation of the event followed a now-familiar pattern, and almost all the stall-holders were the ones I'd seen at the Rio gig in May. I must have made an impression then as I wandered up to the Schweppes cocktail tent and was immediately recognised by the girl behind the counter. She immediately poured me a large G&T on the rocks as she'd remembered that's what I had last time: pretty impressive considering it was 5am the last time we'd met :-) When I say "large" it was more like a quadruple gin, and I downed it rather quickly (bad move) breaking my own rule about not drinking "on the job". Refreshed and having had a chat I wandered off to see what I could see. I needn't have worried too much as I'd already been spotted by my "spotter" mate, Tomas from rave.cz - we'd met at the Rio gig and I'd contacted him earlier this month to try and help me promote my DJ friend in Brno clubs. His fellow-spotter, Katarina was also there but sadly not with camera: it was good to see her again though. Tomas bought me a drink (melon ginger cocktail) and then took me off to see DJ Jerry who's a big name in Moravian clubs. Jerry was actually playing a really good set and if I had more time I would have gone to Brno for a few days to talk to him. However, time was not on my side so I took some pictures and wobbled off the stage: I really must be more strict at gigs but with large drinks at just over a pund its hard to resist... The next notable on stage was DJ Javas, with whom I've had a lot of contact: he actually recognised me(!) and I managed to get some decent pictures on a stage that was rather photographer-unfriendly: hopefully this time he'll use a few on hs web site, but whatever, he played a great set and the sound reverberated off the old castle walls. I'd also arranged to meet my ad-hoc translator, Mischa, whom I'd "met" on DontStayin.com: she'd worked with me remotely to translate the DSI photo-spotter card (a "you've been photographed" card that I hand out) into Czech. I had a whole batch with me that night and gave every last one out. Through a series of missed calls and txt messages we finally met at the Sony stand and had that long-promised drink. She's now living in Prague and has agreed to do more ad-hoc translation work for me which will be handy if I'm to step-up my UK/CZ DJ exchange scheme. With luck we'll meet for coffee next week when I'm there. The night was wearing on and by now the booze was having a predictable effect 8-) It was my traditional 2am "slump" time and I decided to just take in a little light music so it was off to the Drum 'n Bass stage where DJ Andy C and MC Rage were giving it some for Britain. DnB has a very mixed reputation, at least in the UK: in many London DnB clubs there have recently been reports of organised robberies and violence. A couple of knifings has also done nothing to help, and many are questioning WTF is going on with this genre. It's actually such a primaeval beat that I think it can bring out the worst in many people, but it works at such a basic level its hard to resist the beat. Personally I'd never risk a camera at a DnB gig, at least not in the UK. At Hradhouse though, people were there to have a good time, and the Andy C/'Rage set went on for an extra 30 minutes as the crowd was absolutely loving it: as with the Rio gig, the crowd really clicked with the message in the music and even though 'Rage was MC'ing in English you could tell that he was hitting the spot. I spoke to them afterwards and it seems that they'll be playing at the Raindance 18th birthday party in London in September so I agreed to see them there. Small world innit? At about this time the DJ I'd really come to see turned up - DJ Katcha is Prague's very own Queen of DnB and she's been pleasing crowds both at home and abroad for a long time. She actually recognised me before I recognised her(!) and she apologised for not replying to emails.. well, what more could I say.. We had a chat before she went on and she told me that she's from a suburb of Prague, Zizkov, where I'll be staying next week. Probably no chance of a coffee but it was interesting to know a bit of her history :-) She was scheduled to start her set at 3.30am but as Andy's set overran she took the stage at about 4am, taking over the turntables with ease. It was interesting to note that practically no-one was using CD decks - vinyl was the order of the day and some of the scratching was incredible. I'm not sure whether this is a price issue in CZ but I wouldn't be surprised. For a person of slight stature, Katcha certainly puts out a heavy beat and I took as many pictures as I could as the camera batteries faded rapidly. As the time approached 5am I decided to call it a day, so one more quick tour round the castle and then back to the hotel. I dumped the 1Gb of pictures I'd taken onto the backup drive and fell asleep before it had finished copying. The night was over and the experience had been fantastic! Looking back, I think that was the coolest gig I'd ever been to: not only had I been to a gothic castle ruin high on a hill but the whole structure had been lit with coloured floodlights. Not only that, the cloud cover was low enough for the spotlights sweeping the sky to be actually seen - all very surreal and something I'll remember for a long long time. I honestly don't think it would happen in the UK: the National Trust would never sanction that sort of activity, but then if you needed an excuse to travel to Czech Republic you now have one. The organisation was actually first class (thank you Katka!) and security was tight but never in-your-face. They'd even gone to the effort of making it a cashless gig: you could exchange 100 Kc notes for tokens and these were used to buy stuff, so no risk of robbery. I'd been impressed with the performers at Rio but Hradhouse had raised the quality several steps higher: what I liked was the combination of local Djs playing side by side with international big names: we're not talking Tiestos here, but the top DJs are big enough to wow that crowd without being divas. All in all though, everybody had a good time and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. All I need to do now is sort out the pictures, but that's a another story. Visit Katcha's site, and Boskovice Castle

Hradhouse update..
Well, looking at the blog and media pages you'd never guess that Hradhouse 2007 is on soon, and as I know you're intrigued about the event (which is after all a cultural event) I've put up an article on Wikipedia *. Wikipedia .. because everything you read on the Internet is true ;-)

Not a Hradhouse update, but...
It's like Hradhouse but not as much. It's a dance 'n band festival at the Rio de Riviera open-air swimming pool in Brno in the Czech Republic. It's cool. It's hot. It's on 19th May and you can fly direct with Ryanair. Why am I telling you all this? Because i've been asked by the Hradhouse organisers to help out, so by way of an intro, please visit their MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/RiodeRiviera *. It'll be great.. really! See you there!

Hradhouse update..
A major *HIGH FIVE* to the Board of Czech Tourism who will add Hradhouse 2007 to their list of open-air festivals following an email from me. It will be one paragraph long and will outline the form and content of the festival. "The press release will be also published in our info-bulletin - Regional in Czech and International in Czech, English, German and Russian". If that doesn't draw the crowds then nothing will. I just love it! Maybe i've found a new direction? Hmmmm.. Na Shledanou :-) Please visit The Czech Tourism web site anyway.. not just for Hradhouse!

Hradhouse update..
Although I'm not the promoter of the event, as a member of DontStayIn.com i'm allowed to put up details of parties * that i'll be attending, so that's what I did this morning. I've written a short intro to the event based on last year's festival and also some info on "where is Boskovice": quite useful to know for anyone thinks Czech ends at Prague. So, please check it out and maybe share the link. Na shledanou !

Change of (flight) plan..
Looking at the various transport options to get me and the kit down to Hradhouse at Boskovice it now seems a good idea to fly straight to Brno and get a cab/bus/train to Boskovice. So, 45 quid all in via Ryanair - admittedly via that devil's pit known as Stansted Airport - but I can take the train and arrive in plenty of time. Then after the festival, I go back to Prague to chill, and (hopefully) meet up with someone I was introduced to in November, but we shall see. More later! *grin*

Networking/Hradhouse..
Nothing to do with computers and cables: this time its the word-of-mouth thing that I've been concentrating on for a while now, and which seems to be starting to roll. I had more email today from Hradhouse organiser Katka and now have a fine poster for a pre-event which from what I can gather is pretty much the same lineup as Hradhouse (see pic). So it seems they want to see if I can generate some publicity, and seeing how I seem to be doing ok with that kinda thing right now I've approached an organisation that represents Eastern Europeans in the UK, and a popular Czech restaurant in London with a view to getting them involved too. I'm pitching the idea that the ex-pats of a certain age group will be keen to see an event that attracts some top-class names in the music world. MySpace to the rescue again as well: several of the DJs that will be playing sets also have pages so I'm contacting them as well. Also I nipped over to the local Woking paper which serves not only Woking but also Guildford and quite a bit of Surrey as well: plenty of Eastern Europeans in this area, and all earning salaries/wages that would not only get them back home but into the Festival. Some of the contacts I'm making are also very interesting but I can't say anything more yet as it's early days. In other news, my buddy at the accomodation agency has found me a good deal on some accomodation for the after-party which I'm having at Prague. He's also said that a certain person I was introduced to over there has been asking after me and so we'll have to see what happens next. I get the feeling this is all going to steamroller over the next couple of months and going to be there behind the wheel willing it all to go faster! See you later and check out the cool poster!

Hradhouse update..
Okay, well the "missing link" in this trip was getting from Prague to Boskovice, and I had 2 options: hire car at some 250 euro or the train at about 15 euro, so it's a no-brainer, right? Hahaha. I've sussed the rail timetable which looks like this * and has the potential for a high getting lost factor: "dam si jedno pivo prosim" is not gonna help me out this time! I might nip to the travel agent next week and see if I can get some advice. This is going to be FUN!

Hradhouse update..
The good news now is that I now have somewhere to stay in Boskovice when I go to Hradhouse. I booked flights to and from Prague, and also a hotel in Boskovice. I knew it was close to the castle but it wasn't until I checked on the map that I realised I can probably just lean out of the hotel window to hear the music :-) Maybe I should forget the press pass and just spend the money on a big telephoto: it would make life so much easier! Now all I have to do is figure out the easiest way to travel between Prague and Brno. I see the train looks like a good option, so this afternoon I'll looking at options for that and this evening it'll be finishing off the camera kit prep ready for tomorrow. It's all go, but I love it really!

Hradhouse update..
Some things have a habit of moving very quickly in my world, and the Hradhouse business seems to be taking off already. I've been contacted by the promoter who's considering my accreditation request and in return I'll be publicising the event. So i'm giving it my best shot. I've updated my MySpace, and have emailed danceradio.cz *, Prague's premier music station. Yes, the event's not held in Prague but a large proportion of the crowd last year was from there so it makes sense. I also have to start phoning magazines next week and trying to get an accreditation from some of them: I had a long conversation with an experienced freelancer at a photo group meeting earlier this week and it would seem that its far too easy to ignore emails so a day on the phone is likely. I've also been in contact with a Czech buddy who will sort out some accomodation for me. He has access to some nice accomodation on Prague so if you fancy staying there just click on the link asnd see what he can do for you. I plan to see quite a bit more of Prague this time and intend to do some some night street photography too, so it will be nice to make a week of it. Okay, more later, but I get the feeling it won't be too much later!
