Strikes to go ahead by RMT members at Scotrail..
I see the RMT have managed to get the Scotrail crew out on strike. Accrding to the press release, "Due to First Scotrail management’s intransigence and its refusal to comply with existing agreements on driver-only operation at recent talks RMT members will begin four days of rolling strike action from Monday April 12. RMT guards and drivers will not book on for shifts between 00.01 hours on Monday 12th April and 23.59 hours on Wednesday 14th April and sleeper train managers will not book on for shifts between 18.00 hrs on Tuesday 13th April and 17.59 hours on Thursday 15th April". Will they be able to extend this to England? Who knows! There's a link in "More".. RMT link

Abusive chav cuffed at Guildford Rail Station..
On passing through the barriers at Guildford's main station tonight I became aware of a scuffle between a chav, another youth who appeared to be his minder, and shortly afterwards a British Transport Police Officer. The minder was trying unsuccessfully to convince the chav that "everything was alright" (when it obviously wasn't) and when said chav was told to calm down by the Officer he became even more verbally abusive. The situation then developed into a brawl which spilled over into the Costa Coffee shop and ended up with the chav, his minder and the Officer on the floor. Without hesitation the Officer then cuffed the still-protesting chav. As for what happened next, that'll (hopefully) be up to the courts to decide.

Guildford Cathedral vandalised..
I read today that Guildford Cathedral and parts of the adjoining Refectory building had been vandalised, causing irrepairable damage. Mindless yobs have destroyed many of the famous etched-glass doors: these cannot be replaced as the craftsman died in 1976. To add insult to injury, they then smashed windows in the adjoining refectory building, then stuffed tissues through the broken panes and tried to set fire to them: fortunately they failed. What kind of mindless creature does this kind of thing? I really hope the police catch the culprits and the courts hand them a suotable punishment-please let it not be the soft option of "community service"! Personally I think they should be flogged in the town centre then run out of town: okay, so Medieval justice tended to be a bit extreme but in this case would be more than justified. Let's hope the CCTV footage brings them to justice quickly!

Bad accident A320, Woking..
There's been a serious accident involving a car and a lorry on The A320 at Woking and this is causing considerable traffic disruption near the Woking (railway) bridge area. I'm uploading pix of the area now and will colour-correct these when I get a chance.

Smoke spotted in Woking..
A thick black cloud of smoke was spotted over the road from my office in Woking a few moments ago, and shortly afterwards, two fire engines attended. There's no truth in the rumour that Woking is still trying to choose a new Pope.. more, if, or when it happens!

Mappin and Webb rolled!..
Live from Guildford High Street! The world-renowned jewellers, Mappin and Webb have been robbed in broad daylight, and by all accounts, not long before I passed by on the way to pay my Council Tax. Live picture from the scene of crime..maybe more later.

The Siege of Woking..
As readers will remember, it's been a while since last Tuesday when the so-called "Siege of Woking" occurred, but telephone cable thieves and an over-active social life have conspired against me to delay this report. If I'd had a phone line last week this wouldn't have been old news. So, I was on the way to work last Tuesday (8th) and walked past the now-familiar endless traffic queue waiting to get through Woking. As I approached my local pub though, I noticed police vehicles blocking the road and assumed that there'd been another accident. Keen to play the journalist I whipped out my cellphone and got the camera ready - kinda ironic as I had the Nikon D80 in my bag but that was for later and I didn't want to use the battery. I approached one of the officers and asked what the hold-up was as the street past the Co-op was empty: all he would say that he would "rather I didn't go down the road but I was welcome to take the alternate route past a nearby office". However, he was able to confirm that "there was a problem with the [empty] Meirion House offices". I waited for a while to see if anything happened, but there was no sign of any activity, so I took a few pictures and moved on. As I past the office clock though I decided to see if I could take some more pictures of the scene and walked up the car-park ramp to see if I could see anything from a higher level as this would bring me up to a level where I could see over the security fence. Again nothing other than a couple of open windows, which I actually thought was rather odd considering the building was empty and officially due for demolition. Having taken my pictures I continued my walk to work. At this time there was no mention of the incident on the local paper web site, but a local radio station had picked up the incident due to the resulting traffic delays. I immediately copied the images onto CD and nipped round the corner to the newspaper office (it's very close by) who then sent a reporter down to the scene and shortly afterwards published an online article using some of my pictures. Throught the morning the scene was contained by police and the police helicopter was also called in to try and bring the siege to an end. I later found out that a group of people had been using the derelict building for BB gun "games", and had decided to shoot at the Co-op store opposite the building. Police had entered the building to carry out a full search and apprehended 7 people, one of whom was 18 years old. At the time of wrting there is no further news of charges. There is a link to the last news article here here and please check out the pictures attached to this posting.
