Docklands innit..
So here I am parked up for lunch in the new docklands, near Charing Cross Pier, over the way from Excel. The ever-present CCTV is watching me of course, watching in case I transgress, or trespass. Earlier this morning I went to Thames Barrier Park and wandered around the most soulless housing estate i'd ever encountered: very white, very expensive, very New East. I could actually be forgiven for thinking I was In Eastern Europe as on the rare occasions I've heard people speak its invariably been Russian, Polish or Lithuanian, and with that the inherant mistrust of the camera. Speaking at length to a security guard looking after a nearby condemned structure it would seem that the same people that were trickling out of Russia into Estonia when I was there had carried on trickling West and ended up in the UK, jobless and ready to blend into whatever shade of grey economy is most accessible. Not a happy situation for the disenfranchised locals who just have to grin and bear it.. All in all a very strange area to be in and I'll be leaving soon to go to Walthamstow. L8r!
